"It's 3AM, I must be.....getting up to make a Twitter list?" - not Rob Thomas, but @ipadsammy 11/9/13
How can you sleep when you are helping organize your first Edcamp? All the anticipation, trying to make sure the day is meaningful for 175 educators, it was too much for me to take. I got up and made a Twitter list of all people registered for Edcamp ATX. Adam Holman, Stephanie Cerda, and I knew that about half the people registered would show up at Crockett High School. The gesture of signing up, and donating a Saturday for professional development, was enough for me to want to put them on a Twitter list.
The list was made, so I had some extra time. I decided to finish up a Techlandia Podcast that I had made a few months ago. I watched an interview with Sal Khan and Arne Duncan......not good. I decided to remix the Google Hangout with Wokka Patue, Sam Patterson, and George Couros. The result was much better, in my humble opinion. Download, open in Garage Band, upload to Podomatic, write a description and done. I really like the new Podomatic Podcast Player iOS app.
Edcamp Austin was a blur. It was great to see so many people attending their first Edcamp. If I had to estimate I would say 70% of the 175 or so people were first time attendees. I hope the educators that attended felt like it was a good use of time, and participate in future Texas Edcamps. The best way to put a day like this into words, is to build a Storify. The result is at the bottom of the post.
After a nice happy hour with the Edtech Women of Austin, I came back home for the nightcap. Our regular Saturday night 10:30 PM CST Techlandia podcast. We did our weekly roundup of three apps, three Twitter users to add to your PLN, and three eduwins. A nice way to wrap up the day with my good friends Alison Anderson and Curt Rees. Our Learnist board has all the links to our topics and you can check out both below. Someday I will tape one of our little after show talks....a sort of Techlandia Uncensored. It was a full day of tech and collaboration, fun stuff.
